The Analogue Camera Recycle Bank was founded by MacDonaldStrand in 2013. Specially made recycling bins were positioned in a number of locations for the public to deposit their redundant analogue cameras. This repository of unwanted cameras generates the tools and materials for MacDonaldStrand’s ongoing work. The first project made using the collected cameras is, Throwing Analogue Cameras at the Studio Wall and Recording the Impact Digitally. This project is not a lament of the loss of analogue photography or a flippant backlash against digital technology, but a question about the wisdom, motive and culture of continuously smashing up the old in favour of the next thing.
